Appalachian Trail Hike, Feb 2002
Dave Ridge, Gerry Williamson, and friends try for a 3-day, 2-night hike on a section of the Appalachian trail each winter. In 2002, we hiked above Cade's Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park. Starting at the ranger station parking lot, we hiked thru the picnic area onto the Anthony Creek trail. We followed the Anthony Creek Trail to the Russell Field Trail, and from there up to the Appalachian Trail. We headed south on the AT to Mollie's Ridge Shelter, where we spent Saturday night. On Sunday we headed back north on the AT, passing the Russell Field Shelter and going on to the Spence Field Shelter, where we stayed Sunday night. On Monday, we took Bote Mountain Trail out of Spence Field to the Anthony Creek Trail, where we headed down to complete our loop.
