The Blue Ridge Swag is worth the walk in itself. While some trail guides call the entire 3 mile stretch 'the swag', I believer it really refers only to the relatively short section of about 1/2 mile that gently slopes down, levels off for a ways, and then gently rises to the next knob. The swag section is largely along a narrow backbone ridge, and has long tunnels of rhododendron.
