I like the method used by the TEHC to keep the ice down on the bridges - the bridges are slotted (the dark streaks are open slots - and covered with wire mesh. This allows the water to run through rather than stay on top and freeze, and provides footing. This one is on or near the relocation of the AT on the approach from Roan Mountain into Carvers Gap.
