Sugarlands Valley Nature Trail
On Saturday morning, our entire part was here - Terry and Debbie had arrived Friday afternoon. Since the weather was threatening, we started out with an easy and very pleasant half-mile walk around the Sugarlands Valley Nature Trail. This "fully accessible, self-guiding nature trail" is located just a short distance from the Sugarlands visitor center, east on 441 toward Newfound Gap.
Here's an excerpt from the trail pamphlet: "Sugarlands Valley... Nestled among mountains that are ancient and time-worn, this valley has attracted people for centuries - Indians, explorers, early settlers, vacationers, and finally park visitors - all seeking to benefit from the mountainous scenery, clear waters, and a forested landscape with an unusually rich assemblage of plants and animals."
