Detail of Hasbrouck House kitchen window. The Hasbrouck House was used by George Washington as his headquarters for about 18 months, starting in April of 1782. The house was built by Jonathan Hasbrouck, but when Washington needed to use it, Mrs. Hasbrouck, who was now a widow, wasn't pleased. While she "allowed" it, she took all of her belonging from the house to ensure the rougher usage would not destroy them. Washington's troops removed this kitchen window and replaced it with a doorway. After they vacated the house in August of 1783, the window was replace; the seam lines of the stonework can be seen.
